XML Injector is a free helper mod for The Sims 4 that other mods need to work. On its own it does nothing in your game. If a mod you download says “requires XML Injector”, install it once in your Mods folder and keep it there. The current version is v4.2, maintained by Triplis and LittleMsSam after the original creator, Scumbumbo, passed away. Download it only from the official Scumbumbo site linked below.

What it does

Many small mods only need to add an interaction to an object, a phone menu or a computer. Normally that takes a script. XML Injector is a shared script library that does this work, so modders can release their mods as simple XML tuning without writing and maintaining their own scripts. In Scumbumbo’s own words, it lets mods that would normally need a script use “a custom snippet” instead.

For players, that means two things:

  • You only need XML Injector if a mod you use lists it as a requirement.
  • If you remove it, every mod that depends on it stops working.

LittleMsSam, one of the most popular gameplay modders, says on her site that XML Injector is needed for a lot of her mods. Since 2023 many of her mods use it instead of their own script files. See for example our pages on her roommates mod and better nanny mod, and always check the requirements on each mod’s download page.

Works with game version

The download page says v4.2 was written for patch 1.116.202 and newer. On Scumbumbo’s mod status page for patch 1.128, XML Injector is listed under “Status Not Confirmed”. There are no reports of it being broken, but the maintainers have not confirmed 1.128 yet, so we show it as not checked.

A new patch is due on October 27, 2026. See what the October 27 update changes and how to prepare your mods for a patch. We track the status on our Sims 4 mod status page.

How to install XML Injector

  1. Download the script from the official XML Injector page on scumbumbomods.com. You do not need the Modders Documentation file.
  2. The zip contains two files: XmlInjector_Script_v4.2.ts4script and XmlInjector_Script_Test_Users_v4.2.package. Remove any older XML Injector files first.
  3. Put both files directly in your Mods folder (Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods), not in a sub-folder. That makes it easy to find and replace when a new version comes out.
  4. In the game, go to Game Options > Other and make sure “Script Mods Allowed” is ticked. XML Injector is a script, so it will not run without it.
  5. Load a household and click a mailbox. If you see “XML Injector Test” and it shows a notification, it works.
  6. Optional: after the test, delete the Test_Users package to remove the test interaction. Keep the .ts4script file.

Requirements

  • The Sims 4 on PC or Mac, updated to patch 1.116.202 or newer. No packs needed.
  • Script mods enabled in Game Options.

Known conflicts

No conflicts are listed on the official page. The most common problem is having two copies (an old and a new version) in different folders. Keep exactly one .ts4script file. If a dependent mod still fails, a tool like Better Exceptions can show which mod is the problem. Our guide to fixing a broken Mods folder walks through it.

Changelog

  • September 22, 2025 (Triplis): download updated. v4 “categories duplicates check” prevents duplicate entries when mods inject into picker categories, for example gifts on both phone and computer.
  • v4.2: current version (file names end in _v4.2). LittleMsSam updated the test file for patch 1.118, and the players’ test package now only adds the test to mailboxes.
  • v4: new injector for purchase pickers (picker categories and purchase list options).
  • v3: support for “lock aware” computer interactions after the university patch, and modders can add Reward Traits.

FAQ

Do I need XML Injector?

Only if one of your mods requires it. It adds nothing to the game by itself.

Is XML Injector safe?

Yes, when you download it from scumbumbomods.com. Avoid re-uploads on other sites, and never download it from pages that ask you to install extra software.

Why don’t I see the XML Injector Test interaction?

Since the test file update for 1.118, the test only appears on mailboxes. If it is not there, check that script mods are enabled, that the .ts4script file is in the Mods folder itself, and that you restarted the game after enabling script mods.

Does XML Injector work on console?

No. Mods only work on PC and Mac.

Will it break with the October 27 patch?

We don’t know yet. Check Scumbumbo’s status page a day or two after the patch, as the official page recommends, or follow our mod status tracker.
