The Sims 4 gets its next free base game update on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. According to EA’s official Laundry List, the patch brings more than 150 bug fixes, a large food and dining overhaul, about 10 crash fixes and two new game options that let you switch off weight and muscle changes. If you play with mods, plan for a short break: the food changes touch a lot of tuning that script mods also use.

What is in the October 27 update

EA published the full list of planned fixes on October 20. These are the parts that change how the game plays:

  • Weight and muscle toggles. New Game Options turn weight changes and muscle changes on or off for the whole save. There are also new self-interactions to turn them off for one Sim. The two settings are independent, so you can keep weight changes and turn off muscle changes. They do not apply to cats and dogs.
  • Leftovers first. Hungry Sims should now prefer leftovers in the fridge or on the counter instead of cooking a new meal.
  • New prices and calories. EA has retuned the price and calories of every food and drink item in the base game and all packs to make them more consistent.
  • 375+ new Family Recipes. The Family Recipes feature from Businesses & Hobbies now accepts more than 375 existing dishes, many of them cultural dishes.
  • Fridge shortcut. “Open” moves to the front of the fridge pie menu.
  • Lockable TVs. Televisions can be locked to specific Sims, the same way computers can.
  • New “Sim Options…” menu. Self-interactions such as Disable Attraction, Utensil Preference and Sim Physique move into one new category when you click your active Sim.
  • Better save backups. The game now tracks save backups more reliably if you have not played for a while.

The biggest bug fixes

  • Endless loading when placing lots after heavy use of the Move Objects cheat.
  • An infinite white screen when loading certain save files. EA says some lot details may need rebuilding, but the saves will load again.
  • Sims freezing after a nap and while planning routes.
  • Fairies bitten by a werewolf now turn into full werewolves without black visual corruption.
  • Reborn Sims from Life & Death now join the household and show up in Create a Sim.
  • Infants fall asleep without needing very low Energy.
  • Sims stay seated more often while eating and talking, and stop putting food in display cases.

Dine Out gets another round of fixes

Restaurants have been one of the most reported problem areas this year (we covered the first round of Dine Out fixes in May). This time EA says waiters should show up for their shifts, customers chat less before they sit down, and diners no longer leave food or drinks behind before they pay. EA also admits that some broken dining flows may still be left and asks players to keep reporting them.

What it means for your mods

This is the part most players should care about. In the Laundry List, EA writes that many of the top crash reports are still closely linked to outdated or conflicting mod files. The team says it has added “guardrails” in the code where it can, but some conflicts are outside its control.

Our read of the patch:

  • Food and cooking mods are the most likely to break. A full price and calorie pass across every pack means mods that override food or recipe tuning may undo EA’s changes or stop working until they are updated.
  • Restaurant and autonomy mods should be checked. EA changed how Sims choose leftovers, where they put dishes and how restaurant staff and customers behave.
  • Pie menu and UI mods may need updates. The new “Sim Options…” category moves several self-interactions, which can clash with mods that add to or rearrange the same menu.
  • Script mods in general. Big tools like MC Command Center usually need a new version after a patch. Deaderpool already has a release candidate for MCCC 2026.6.0 on Patreon (posted October 18), but that is not a confirmed patch-ready build.

Before you update, back up your saves and your Mods folder, and wait for modders to confirm their mods work with the new version. We track the most popular mods on our Sims 4 mod status page, which resets to “Not checked” on patch day and fills up as modders confirm their updates.

What comes next: the December update

EA also shared a first look at December. That update targets top community issues and high-priority crashes. EA says it is looking at about 25 possible bugs but may only fix around 10. On the list: performance drops after long play sessions, longer load times, gamepads that stop working after a few minutes, and Error Code 801 when a Sim travels to another lot. After December, the team plans a larger patch early next year.

FAQ

When is the next Sims 4 update?

The next update is scheduled for October 27, 2026. EA has not announced a release time.

Can I turn off weight gain in The Sims 4?

Yes, from October 27. Go to Game Options, Gameplay and untick “Allow Weight Changes”. You can also turn it off for a single Sim from the new Sim Options menu.

Will the update break my mods?

Most script mods need an update after a patch, and this one changes food, dining and pie menu code. Remove or disable mods before you update and add them back once each modder has confirmed a working version.
