What’s new in the August 19 Sims 4 patch update
A Sims 4 new patch has landed as of August 19, 2025, across PC, Mac, and consoles. Although the update isn’t massive in size, it brings meaningful changes including visual upgrades, helpful tools, and a range of long-requested bug fixes.
Players should back up saves, tray folders, and mods before diving in. Even a small patch can cause unexpected issues, and losing a build or household is never fun.
This Sims 4 new patch wraps up the summer roadmap, which means something new is brewing behind the scenes. More kits and likely an expansion pack are rumored to follow later this year.
Huge Create-a-Sim win with new skin details
This Sims 4 new patch introduces the most detailed skin additions we’ve seen since the vitiligo feature. Led by producer Ash and art directors Tracy and Cheyenne, the goal was to bring more realism and life experiences into Sims 4, especially focusing on elder Sims.
You’ll now find detailed facial and body options:
- Mouth wrinkles
- Eye bags
- Age spots and dark spots on cheeks and forehead
- Body wrinkles on torso, arms, and legs
- Stretch marks now come in light and dark tones
- Rosacea in 3 redness variations
- Freckles with full-body coverage, light to heavy density
The new skin features blend with body hair and tattoos, stay consistent as Sims age, and adapt to body shape changes. Although teens and children can’t use most of these yet, EA confirmed plans to extend these updates in the future.
Custom pack selector finally arrives in Sims 4 new patch
One feature players have wanted for years is finally here. The pack selection menu lets you decide which packs to load when starting a new save, perfect for streamlining gameplay or reducing loading time.
From the game menu, click the three dots and enter the new pack selection screen. Check or uncheck which packs you want active. Only those will load next time you start a fresh save.
This won’t affect your existing saves unless you try to play them without the required packs. If you do, the game will show icons indicating what’s missing and give you options to either remove that content or reload with everything restored.
Performance, bug fixes, and console upgrades
EA also improved performance under the hood. If you use an Intel GPU, your game now runs with DirectX11 by default, which boosts rendering quality. Non-Intel players stay on DX9 but can switch manually using EA’s guide.
Visuals are smoother, shadows don’t flicker, lighting is consistent, and crashes tied to graphics settings are fixed.
Console players benefit too. User agreements now load properly, allowing access to the Gallery and events. Volume settings finally save like they should.
One new toggle called Enable Ailment Spread lets you control whether illnesses spread between Sims in the enchanted by nature pack.
New creator kits on the horizon
Two exciting creator kits are also arriving soon:
- Grange Mudroom Kit by Peacemaker_IC
- Essential Glam Kit by CrypticSim
Each brings stylish new content and has strong creator backing, promising quality and fresh design options for your Sims’ homes.
Essential bug fixes that players asked for
Several nagging issues have been resolved:
- Sneakers now show under cold weather
- Wide-leg jeans display correctly for masculine Sims
- Tucked tees show in athletic, hot weather, and sleepwear
- Blazer & tee combo now appears under feminine outfits
- Curly shag hairstyle correctly categorized as wavy
In High School Years, all teens from your household now get tasks if four or more attend class. Tattoos from the Gallery no longer cause Sims to appear completely black.
And yes, dirty states on items in the Sleek Bathroom Kit now show correctly, with no color-swapping bugs.
